Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese: the first book read by my book club. A fabulous read that has also taught me the joy of sharing books and found family.

Caprese Sandwich, Color Purple, anything on an English muffin.
What are a few of your favorite things?
Fresh flowers, the people I work with, books, whatever Teryi and Leslie are cooking, traveling anywhere
What are some subjects you are especially interested in or knowledgeable about?
A dear mentor of mine used to say, “I don’t know anything, but I’ve seen everything.” That’s exactly where I stand on knowledge. I’m interested in everything. Not so much that I would read non-fiction, but interested enough that I’d watch Samin Nosrat on Netflix, or a documentary on dinosaurs.
What would you feed your favorite character?
I’d give the Pigeon another hot dog.

What book changed your life?

The Scarlet Letter; it was the first book I read where I realized the layers a story could contain, and that felt like magic.

What is your favorite drink and treat combo, or lunch, from Camilla Kitchen?
A Mama Lorde latte and a Salted Rosemary Shortbread.
What are a few of your favorite things?
My people. My dog Frances. The ocean. A good piece of cheese, a glass of wine, live music (or baseball, or jai lai—whatever people love doing is a joy to watch.)
What are some subjects you are especially interested in or knowledgeable about?
Writing, cooking, yoga. Seashells of the Eastern Seaboard, breeds of dog, knitting. My obsessions are many.
What would you feed your favorite character?

My favorite answer is my husband’s answer: “my second favorite character.” But my favorite character might be Grady Tripp from Wonderboys, or Arthur Less from Less, or Nordstrom from The Man Who Gave Up His Name, and all those men need a big martini and a good nap.

Nancy Drew and the Secret of the Old Clock. I still love Nancy! A strong female character with a great group of family and friends, helping people, solving mysteries, and driving a blue convertible! Goals!

I can’t pick a favorite but I would love to have a chat with Ian Fleming. What range… James Bond and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!

I’m a simple girl – a Cafe Latte and a Morning Glory Muffin.

Fries, boat rides, smiley faces, dogs, Paris.

I’m an expert level worrier, also very good at procrastinating, and overscheduling—the trifecta of fun.

My favorite character is the horse in Fallen Land… so…hay.

My dog Rory, zinnias, freshly baked bread, slow mornings at home.

Fantasy films from the ’80s, buddy comedies from the ’90s, and why romance novels are good, actually.

What would you feed your favorite character?

I’d make Anne Eliott from Jane Austen’s Persuasion some toast and jam. She is so busy taking care of others and she needs someone to put her needs first for a change.

Taylor Jenkins Reid, Tennessee Williams, Lindy West, Kate Hamill, and Edgar Allan Poe

What is your favorite drink and treat combo, or lunch, from Camilla Kitchen?

The Dark Pines, always iced, and a chocolate chip cookie, usually fresh out of the oven. Lunch, on the other hand, is the Black bean Chicken Flatbread.

What are a few of your favorite things?

Spending time with my siblings (there’s eight of us), being in nature next to a river or just any water, and reading on decks that don’t belong to me.

What are some subjects you are especially interested in or knowledgeable about?

Movies & TV trivia, all things theater, traveling (especially Europe and Southeast Asia), camping next to active volcanos, and bees and beekeeping (it’s the inspiration of my first play).

What would you feed your favorite character?

We’re eating Tempe Manis Goreng (it’s pretty much a heavenly spicy tempe and green beans in a sweet soy sauce) from my homeland (Indonesia).

What book changed your life?

Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney is a gorgeous children’s picture book about traveling the world, living simply by the sea, and leaving the world a more beautiful place. As a kid, the illustrations and ideas inspired the way I dreamed about my life. Now, it reminds me that underneath all the big dreams, the little things like beautiful lupines are what make all the difference.

C. S. Lewis, Flannery O’Connor, Jane Austen, Ernest Hemingway, Shauna Niequist, Kristin Hannah, Sally Hepworth

What is your favorite drink and treat combo, or lunch, from Camilla Kitchen?

Literally anything Chef Teryi and Leslie make is GOLD. My favorite thing to do is have them surprise me!

What are a few of your favorite things?

Besides writing and books, I love trying new restaurants, becoming a regular, learning about wine and whiskey, dancing at home, running outside, spending time with friends and family in the slow hours of the afternoon, and anything BBC. I love seeing live theatre, listening to a musician’s music until I know everything they’ve ever done, and watching movies once it’s dark. Also, Little House on the Prairie and Survivor. Forever.

What are some subjects you are especially interested in or knowledgeable about?

The Christian life, Mississippi authors, C. S. Lewis, Flannery O’Connor, memoir as a genre, Jane Austen, Western film and lit, and BBC!

What would you feed your favorite character?

I would feed Anne Shirley Cuban picadillo! (I’m half Cuban.) I love her and her zeal for life, and I bet she’d love Cuban food and probably never had it.

A double espresso and half of a chocolate chip cookie with milk. Preferably with a milk mustache as a result.
What are a few of your favorite things?
Ordering obscure books for the store and then selling them like a used car salesman selling an ’82 Chevette.
What are some subjects you are especially interested in or knowledgeable about?
How to drink water from a mountain without purifying it.
What would you feed your favorite character?
I would like to feed Janie Mae Crawford oysters and whisky while we sit under a pear tree and, well, I’ll be wearing linen and she will be in a flowery cotton dress.

What book changed your life?

One book that changed my life, in the fact that it was one that impacted my love for reading while growing up, was The Castle in the Attic by Elizabeth Winthrop.

Erin Morganstern, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Becca Fitzpatrick are a few of my favorites.
What is your favorite drink and treat combo, or lunch, from Camilla Kitchen?
I love getting an iced Color Purple, and I have to say, the peach hand pie is my new favorite treat.
What are a few of your favorite things?
A few of my favorite things include my dog Porter, cozy sweaters, and PowerPoint nights with my best friend.
What are some subjects you are especially interested in or knowledgeable about?
I’m really interested in crime and crafts! I love learning about forensics throughout history and, at the same time, if I’m lucky, creating something through any art medium, but especially cross-stitch or embroidery.
What would you feed your favorite character?
I would probably feed Sherlock Holmes an extreme sour warhead candy, which I think he would absolutely love or hate.

Sabriel by Garth Nix – My mom used to take us to the library once a week, and this was the first book I found which truly made me realize what fiction could do. Not only were the characters incredibly vibrant, the world Garth Nix built was immersive and absorbing.

I revel in the simple things in life. The Eugenia is the BLT perfected by a master of her craft.

Rock and roll, cooking, driving, hiking, sci-fi, high fantasy, music history, adventure, & exploration.

Mesopotamian History, Military History, Middle Eastern History

I bake one of the world’s best apple pies. They and their friends can come along for that treat.

What book changed your life?
Boy, this is tough. I think the first book that comes to mind is The Saturday Night Ghost Club.
Who is(are) your favorite author(s)?
I think as a kid I liked Rick Riordan a whole lot (as we all did). I can remember making my mom take me to the bookstore every time a new book of his came out, and finishing it before the end of the day.
What is your favorite drink and treat combo, or lunch, from Camilla Kitchen?
I really love a hazelnut latte and then a nice warm chocolate chip cookie.
What are a few of your favorite things?
Hmm… I really enjoy the beach, reading, good days when my whole family is together, and then hot weather. Also Mike and Ike’s. Love those.
What are some subjects you are especially interested in or knowledgeable about?
Well I came into college a History major but then dropped that real quick. But I still enjoy it. I’m Literature, though I read mostly fiction/YA with a focus on fantasy, I would say. I love to nerd out in the world a good author can create.
What would you feed your favorite character?
I’m a terrible cook so I would probably take them to a nice restaurant with me. Perhaps Tito’s pizza in town. (The character is Coriolanus Snow.)

The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. I read it in 5th grade and it truly sparked my love of reading.

Honey lemon mint tea. It’s good at any time of day, no matter the weather!

Hanging out with my two-year-old, baseball, traveling the world, leaf peeping!

Wind energy, sustainability, baseball, and random trivia!

I would feed anyone a giant garbage plate from my hometown of Rochester, NY. Sometimes you just need to sit down, eat too much, and enjoy the feeling of sitting still.
