Join us on April 16 from 7-8:30 pm for our second annual Circle of Poets. It's poetry like you've never heard before. Think Pitch Perfect Riff Off meets Poetry Improv. We'll feature local poets Kathleen Nalley (of M.Judson fame), Mamie Morgan, Claire Bateman, Nancy Dew Taylor, Rick Mulkey, John Pursley and Sarah Blackman.
Here's the way Circle of Poets works: Each of the readers brings a lot of poems to the circle. Rather than each reader reading for one chunk of time, sequentially, the readers riff off each other. The first reader chooses a poem and reads it. The second reader, on the spot, picks a poem that he or she sees as having some connection to the first reader's selection, whether in theme, subject, style, form, etc, and jumps in to pick up from the first reader. Then the third reader does the same, responding to the poem the second reader has just read. It continues until everyone has read, and then it goes back to the first reader, who responds to the last person in the sequence, and so on. As a spectator, it's amazing to watch these word wizards work their magic on their feet.
