Our bookish series begins with inspiration from MFK Fisher and The Art of Eating. Her essays are an intoxicating blend of memoir, travelogue, and lush description. But, too—her early life and career are the fact behind the fiction in Ashley Warlick’s new novel, The Arrangement.
Set against the backdrop of Depression-era Hollywood and Europe between the wars, this is a novel of a young woman’s perspective on the pleasures of the table, as seen through her blossoming writing career, her passionate entanglements, and her own love of a good meal.
Chef Teryi Youngblood of Passerelle has devised a menu based on the same passages of Fisher’s work that were central to Ashley’s imagination. It promises to be a one-of-a-kind celebration in advance of the big publication day for The Arrangement on February 9th.
