Kathryn Smith, author of The Gatekeeper, the first biography of FDR’s private secretary Missy LeHand, will be in conversation with James L. Shoemaker, Jr. at M. Judson Books on Sunday, October 30 at 4 p.m. Jim, who is retired from the Wyche law firm, spent part of his childhood in Paris before World War II and was living at Pearl Harbor the day the Japanese attacked. Smith’s book covers that time, as LeHand’s 21 years working for FDR included his first three presidential terms, the New Deal and the lead up to World War II. Join Kathryn and Jim for a fascinating look at the most tumultuous years of the 20th century.
