Sound Your Yawp

On this day in 1855, Walt Whitman published the first edition of Leaves of Grass.  It is a collection of 12 loosely related poems that reflect Whitman’s philosophy, and he spent the rest of his life working on them, revising them several times.

The character of Mr. Keating used “Song of Myself,” included in Leaves of Grass, to educate and inspire his students in Dead Poets’ Society.  If you want to sound your yawp or stand on your desk in honor of this auspicious day, feel free.
