We’re excited to host the Greenville launch party for Robert Lee Kendrick and his debut collection of poems, What Once Burst With Brilliance.
These poems explore their narrators' paths through loss -- unborn children, broken relationships, unfulfilled dreams. They seek healing through encounters with nature -- watching catfish, finding boar tracks, seeing the play of light on winter leaves -- and manual work -- from hanging drywall, to cooking a meal, to restoring a motorcycle. Although the narrators speak from their senses of dislocation and grief, the poems are, in the end, stubbornly life-affirming.
Robert Lee Kendrick grew up in Illinois and Iowa, but now calls South Carolina home. After earning his M.A. from Illinois State University and his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina, he held a number of jobs, ranging from house painter to pizza driver to grocery store worker to line cook. He now lives in Clemson with his wife, and their dog.
Join us at 7pm to hear the story behind these poems, and the poems themselves. Absolutely free!
