In Conversation with Carolyn Day, "Consumptive Chic: A History of Beauty, Fashion, and Disease"

Join us In Conversation with Furman history professor Carolyn Day as she discusses her book Consumptive Chic: A History of Beauty, Fashion, and Disease with Dr. Savita Nair. Consumptive Chic surveys the impacts of disease, specifically Tuberculosis, on perceptions of beauty and the evolution of women’s fashion during 18th and 19th century Europe. The impacts of her research implies how those perceptions of beauty have prevailed.

Carolyn Day’s research has received national attention, She has been a guest on the podcast History Hit and featured in Smithsonian Magazine, as well as coverage on sites Jezebel, Bustle, and Hello Giggles.
